Homemade Everything Bagel Seasoning- Low Sodium

Everything bagel seasoning is a simple, delicious way to add a savory crunch to just about anything—from eggs and veggies to toast and salads. Made with a simple mix of sesame seeds, garlic powder, dried minced onion, and seeds like poppy or chia, this versatile blend packs big flavor with minimal effort. While store-bought versions are convenient, they often contain unnecessary salt.  Making your own seasoning allows you to control the amount of sodium without sacrificing flavor.  

How To Make Everything Bagel Seasoning

You will need : 

  • Sesame Seeds

 

  • Chia Seeds (can substitute with poppy seeds) 

 

  • Garlic Powder 

 

  • Dried Minced Onions (can substitute with onion powder) 

 

  • An airtight jar to keep the spice blend fresh. 

This recipe doesn’t contain any added salt, and I promise, you won’t miss it!  The mixture is nutty, savory, and crunchy deliciousness without the added sodium.

 
 

Measuring Ingredients

You can measure everything out precisely if that’s your style—but honestly, this recipe is super forgiving. I usually just eyeball it using this simple ratio:

2 parts sesame seeds : 2 parts chia seeds : 2 parts dried minced onion : 1 part garlic powder

That’s it! Just dump everything into your jar, give it a good shake or stir, and boom—your homemade spice blend is ready for action.

When I make a batch, I loosely follow the recipe measurements and it lasts me quite a while. But if your storage jar is on the smaller side, feel free to cut the quantities in half—or just fill the jar using the same 2:2:2:1 ratio. Easy, breezy, and no measuring cups to wash.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 Tbsp chia seeds or poppy seeds
  • 4 Tbsp sesame seeds
  • 4 Tbsp dried minced onion or onion powder
  • 2 Tbsp garlic powder

Instructions
 

  • Add all the ingredients in an airtight container like a mason jar, and stir to combine.
  • Seal and store with you other spices and seasoning blends.
