Pure Nutrition and Wellness

Meet Pam

I believe that food has the power to heal and transform your life.

I’ll teach you simple ways to upgrade your nutrition and well-being.

My Story

Hi there, I’m Pam.  I’m a mom, registered dietitian nutritionist, owner of Pure Nutrition & Wellness, and a former emotional eater/ yo-yo dieter.

As a long time nutrition and healthy eating enthusiast (love me a salad with grilled salmon), and also a sweets lover (won’t say no to a piece of pie or fruity cocktail), I’ve always been drawn to the power food has to nourish my body, so I built my meals around vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats, and lean proteins.  But, then I agonized over my seemingly uncontrollable impulse to down multiple servings of cookies, chips or other sweet/salty processed food every day, often immediately after I got home from work or late in the evening.  These binges left me feeling bloated, defeated, out of control, uncomfortable and contributed to unwanted weight gain.  At the time, I didn’t understand that my binges weren’t a sign of weakness or lack of self-control, and that they were actually serving a purpose by communicating a need that I was ignoring.  I didn’t even realize that I was an emotional eater. I thought I just had a big appetite and little self-control, but I was wrong.  After I became and RDN and helped dozens of clients experiencing similar eating habits, I realized that I was using food to soothe emotions because IT WORKED, so of course I continued to do it. It provided temporary relief from tough emotions. But ultimately, I knew something had to change.  It wasn’t until I learned how to tune into my internal hunger and satiety cues, properly fuel by body with balanced nutrition, and identify and manage my emotions that I was able to make the healthy changes I knew I needed but didn’t think were possible for me.   I learned how to enjoy the treats I love without feeling out of control, and I discovered that moderation does exist for me and the foods that I thought were “bad” can still be included in my healthy diet.  Now I have the privilege of helping others take control over emotional eating and build a nutrition and lifestyle plan that works for them.

My Nutrition Philosophy

I believe that food has tremendous healing power and has the potential to prevent disease.  Good nutrition paired with a healthy lifestyle is a powerful tool that enables us to feel our best, both physically and mentally. And while some foods are more nutrient dense and health-promoting than others, I also believe that all foods, barring allergies or intolerances, can be part of a healthy diet.  Balance and moderation matter.  From my perspective, most people can achieve optimal health by prioritizing whole or minimally processed nutrient dense foods most of the time while allowing space for treats and fun foods too.  I’m a proponent of Mediterranean style and anti-inflammatory eating patterns.  I guide my clients to discover the transformative power of food – dialing in on what foods make their bodies feel the best, and then I help them take small steps toward incorporating an eating style that allows them to achieve optimal health while also enjoying their favorite foods.  There is no right or wrong way to eat a healthy diet, there’s only what’s “right” for you.
